About the PYP Curriculum

The Elementary School at EAC is authorized by the International Baccalaureate (IB) to deliver the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the first program in the IB’s suite, and the most prestigious curriculum model in the world. The PYP values a child’s natural curiosity, creativity and ability to reflect. As PYP learners, through critical thinking, they develop knowledge, understanding and skills within and across subject areas.

A day in the life of an Elementary student at EAC

Elementary students are dropped off at the student drop-off area as of 7:20 am for a school start at 7:45 am. They are met by teacher assistants and taken to their classrooms.

New students are warmly welcomed by a buddy who accompanies them throughout their transition to EAC, from their orientation to the first days of school.

Every grade level follows a timetable in which a rotation of subjects including language, social studies, mathematics, arts, science, physical / social / personal education, and Brazilian studies is held.

All subjects are taught in the English language, except for Brazilian studies, which are held in the Portuguese language for 1h20 each day in accordance with the requirements set forth by the Brazilian Ministry of Education.

Students who are new to the English language, benefit from our English as an Additional Language (EAL) program. The EAL program’s primary purpose is to ensure that all students become proficient in English and achieve academic success.

From 3:20 to 4:20 pm, Elementary students can take part in our After School Activities program, where a wide range of activities are on offer as part of EAC’s co-curricular instruction.

ELEMENTARY AT A GLANCE

Curriculum

The Elementary School at EAC is authorized by the International Baccalaureate (IB) to deliver the Primary Years Program (PYP), the first program in the IB’s suite, and the most prestigious curriculum model in the world.

The PYP is based on the recognition of a child’s natural curiosity, creativity and ability to reflect. It generates a stimulating, challenging learning environment to nurture the whole child and foster a lifelong love of learning for all. The PYP is transdisciplinary, meaning students learn across subject areas while inquiring into big ideas.

After School Activities

Students from Grade 1 to Grade 12 are offered a robust after school co-curricular program. Activities vary from year to year depending on season, availability of personnel and facilities.

Safeguarding / Child Protection

EAC recognizes that child protection and welfare considerations permeate all aspects of school life and must be reflected in all of the school’s policies, practices and activities.

The goal of this policy is to ensure that all parties work together to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children. This policy recognizes the proactive training that EAC must undertake to educate students, parents, faculty and staff about child protection. It also stresses the process and procedures to be followed in cases of suspected child abuse.

All adults who come into contact with children are appropriately and thoroughly vetted and trained.
